In this work we study Muqarnas, a special three–dimensional ornamentation, common in the Islamic architecture. The aim is to analyze the two–dimensional designs of muqarnas and to create three–dimensional computer reconstructions of the muqarnas directly from their designs. Before going into details, we will use this introductory description to explain what muqarnas are. Muqarnas is the Arabic word for stalactite vault, an architectural ornament consisting of niche-like elements, arranged in tiers. It can be used in domes, niches, or on arches as an almost decorative frieze. A dome is a half sphere, or an oval, usually placed on a rectangular building. A muqarnas can be fit into the dome to provide a smooth transition between the rectangular part and the vaulted part. We focus on muqarnas from the ‘’Sinan Style’’ (figure 01). We choose the Sehzadebasi Mosque in Istanbul. It is a 16th-century Ottoman imperial mosque located in the district of Fatih, on the third hill of Istanbul, Turkey. It has got a typical muqarnas ornamentation on its own gate (figure 02). After analyzed this sample we have inspired from this figure for compose our own pattern. Thus to create a new structure with our pattern. Our purpose of study is to create a computable and generative model to practicable in to the real world.
